Zentangle video class — Don’t be afraid of the dark

Don’t be afraid of the dark is a Zentangle video class. I originally created it for CZT AE 2025. It is now in my shop, split into four videos. As a result, you can work step by step instead of sitting through two hours in one go.

What you make in this Zentangle video class

You work on a round white tile from ACT2Tangle. First, you set up the string. You divide the tile into eight equal parts with two circles around it. Next, you fill the tile with just a few tangles and a fragment. In the centre, you tangle a gem that you shape with only a 14B pencil and a tortillion. This way, you learn how far you can take a piece without colour or black areas. Just shadow and line work.

In the bonus video, you draw the same tile again. However, this time you colour it in with Lindy’s Magicals Kissin’ Klimt. I also show you how to work with a waterbrush. In addition, you see how the colours react on the paper.

How this class is structured

The class consists of four videos:

• Introduction video — about the class and the idea behind it (6 minutes)
• Building the string — how to divide the tile into eight parts and measure the circles (10 minutes)
• Drawing the tile — fragment, tangle and gem in black and white with pencil (53 minutes)
• Bonus video Lindy’s Magicals — the same tile with colour (52 minutes)

That adds up to just over two hours of class. As a result, you can spread the lessons over several sessions. So you do not have to do it all at once.

What you receive after payment

After your order, you receive access to the videos and an extensive handout. First of all, the handout contains the materials overview. In addition, you get a step-by-step explanation of the string with photos. Furthermore, all the practical information you need to follow along is included.

You can order this class in two ways:

Video class and handout only — € 39,95 For those who already have the materials at home. Or for those who prefer to gather them themselves.

Video class with materials kit — € 57,95 Includes a set of round white tiles from my shop. In addition, you get a waterbrush and small cups with samples of Lindy’s Magicals Kissin’ Klimt tied to a string. As a result, you have enough to do the entire class and the bonus video. Moreover, you do not have to buy full pots of Magicals first.

What you need for the class

In addition to what is in the kit (or if you order the class without the kit), you will need the following:

A Sakura Pigma Micron PN or Uni Pen 01. Furthermore, a Sakura IdentiPen, a Faber Castell Pitt Matt 14B pencil and one tortillion. For the bonus video, you will also need a cloth or paper to clean your waterbrush. In addition, some extra paper to mix colours on.

Who this Zentangle video class is for

This class is for anyone who likes Zentangle and wants to give this project a try. Some basic experience with tangling makes it easier. However, it is not required. I take you through every step on video. So you can follow along at your own pace and pause whenever you need to.
